What a night of racing at Square Deal Riders for the Lee Thomas Cup on August 2nd. It started out with another night of threatening weather but Mother Nature spared us for what turned out to be SDR's largest turnout of riders and a terrific 25 lap main event for the experts. We had a total of 169 riders, with 32 riders signing up for open expert, and 19 riders for the 450 expert class. Only 17 riders would make the main for the 25 lap Lee Thomas Cup race, so we had to have 5 heat races and 2 semi's. The 450 class had 3 heats with one semi. Shawn Clark was the fast qualifier from the heats and would get the first starting spot. On the start, Shawn jumped out to an early lead with Cam Rafferty, Justin Velicky and Craig Estelle hot on his tail. The race went to the checkers without a restart, and there was great racing throughout the field for all 25 laps. Shawn Clark got the win, with Cam Rafferty and Craig Estelle topping off the podium.

The 450 Expert and Sportsman class were won by Cam Rafferty who had a terrific night in all three of the classes he entered.

On behalf of SDR's club members, I want to thank all the riders and spectators who came out once again to support this event and make it one of, if not the most successful flat track races we've ever had. It was a great night altogether, and a smoothly run program. The races started at 7pm sharp and completed 32 total heats, 5 semi's, a brief intermission, rider introductions, a 25 lap Expert Main event, and another 15 main events in a little over 4 hours. Thanks to all the club members as well for all their hard work to make this race happen and get completed in a fashionable time.

Our last race of the season at SDR is our always special Aaron Creamer Memorial Race on September 20th. It is an 18 lap Open Expert main event. If you have never attended this race, mark it on your calendar because it is always a night to remember. It is a pleasure to have Aaron's family on hand every year to kick off this race. We are also looking for lap sponsors for this race, so if anyone would like to sponsor laps for the 18 lap main, it would be greatly appreciated.
